Pellet stove won't fire up - what to do?

Firing up a pellet stove is usually an automatic and trouble-free process. However, it happens that the device refuses to cooperate. What could be the cause and how to effectively solve this problem? We discuss the most common causes and how to eliminate them.

Lack of proper chimney draft

If the Class 5 pellet stove does not fire up or fires up with a long delay, check the chimney draft. A draught that is too weak or a blocked flue can prevent pellets from burning properly. The causes of problems vary. Among the most common are:

  • an obstructed chimney,
  • a chimney that is too low,
  • a soggy chimney.

It is worth cleaning the chimney regularly and monitoring its technical condition. If the problem is insufficient height, verify its specifications with the technical documentation of the pellet stove and possibly extend it.

Problems with pellet feeder

Failure to fire up a Class 5 pellet boiler may be due to problems with the fuel feeder. If the pellets do not reach the burner in the right amount, the combustion process will not run properly. Possible causes are:

  • Blocked feeder - pellet particles and dust can cause blockages.
  • Defective auger - if the fuel feeding mechanism is not working properly, the stove will not receive enough fuel.
  • Poor quality of pellets - wet contaminated pellets can form sintered pellets that block the feeder.

In such a situation, it is worth thoroughly cleaning the feeder and checking that the screw mechanism works smoothly. If the problem is low-quality pellets, replace the fuel with a certified product with the right parameters.

Igniter failure

When a central heating furnace won't fire up, one common cause is a faulty igniter. This component is responsible for initiating the combustion process, and its failure makes it impossible to successfully light the boiler. How to identify a defective igniter?

  1. pellet stove unsuccessful firing signals an error on the control panel.
  2. you can see that pellets are fed to the burner, but ignition does not occur.
  3. the igniter does not heat up or works irregularly.

Solution? Replacing the igniter is often the only way to restore proper boiler operation. Choose original replacement parts that will ensure the long life of the appliance. How to replace the igniter in an Eko Silver boiler

Dirty burner

Failure to fire up the central heating stove can also be the result of accumulated ash and soot in the burner. If the residual fuel is not removed regularly, the burner will not work properly.

Regular cleaning of the burner is the key to proper furnace operation. Remove accumulated ash at least once a week and make sure the unit is properly maintained.

Incorrect driver setting

Sometimes the pellet stove does not fire up due to incorrect settings of the controller. If the combustion parameters are poorly selected, the firing process can be unstable or ineffective. What should be checked?

  • Igniter time - too short may not allow the fuel to ignite effectively.
  • The amount of pellets fed - too large or too small a dose can interfere with the combustion process.
  • Boiler mode - it is worth verifying that the stove is operating in automatic mode and that important settings have not been changed.

If you have doubts, consult an expert who can advise you on the right parameters.

If your pellet central heating stove won't fire up, don't panic. Most often, the problem is due to minor faults that can be easily eliminated. Regular cleaning of the boiler, checking the feeder, checking the igniter and optimal settings of the controller are the keys to trouble-free operation. With proper maintenance, your stove will operate reliably for years to come!
